With books enjoying a resurgence in popular culture, from viral BookTok recommendations to bestseller lists, we decided to bring that excitement to Spectrum with the Summer Reading Challenge. This challenge was our way of tapping into the current buzz around reading, encouraging our team to discover new favorites and revisit beloved classics.
The challenge consisted of employees selecting a premade Bingo card which had randomly selected book/book-related categories such as “Read a book by an LGBTQIA+ author,” “Visit your local library” and “Recommend a book to another Spectrumite.” For the month of August, everyone was encouraged to complete as many squares on their Bingo card to get 5 in a row. Those who completed rows were entered into a raffle to win a few different prizes and winners were announced live at our company-wide meeting.
Spectrumites showed up and read many new books while also recommending their favorites to others across the company. While it was an opportunity to increase their book count for the year, it also fostered connection between employees with shared interests.
